Scott Fischer spent more than 40 years in the media business, most of that time as a publisher of four newspapers, president of a newspaper division and vice president of Freedom Communications. He has served on boards and worked in many organizations such as The Salvation Army, Red Cross, chambers of commerce and industrial development organizations. Additionally, Fischer was instrumental in helping form the Committee of 100, the precursor to the Economic Development Committee that has been responsible for bringing jobs to the area.
His dedication to community service continued after his career in the newspaper business. He held positions as an unpaid sheriff’s deputy, cold case homicide investigator and deputy county coroner.
He has two children who grew up in Fort Walton Beach and Panama City and they still live in the area. He and his wife, Roxanne, have been married for 28 years. She is a native of New Orleans and works as a nurse anesthetist in the Destin and Fort Walton Beach area.
Fischer resides on Holiday Isle where he serves as the vice president of the Holiday Isle Improvement Association.
