Policies & Membership Information
The Destin Library is supported by city and county taxpayers, who expect our facilities to be clean, comfortable, and safe places for selecting materials, reading, researching, studying, writing and attending library or community sponsored programs and meetings. To this end, the library is responsible for establishing rules of conduct to protect the rights and safety of library patrons, volunteers and staff, and for preserving and protecting the library’s materials, equipment, facilities and grounds. Please click here for our Standards of Acceptable Library Behavior Policy.

Membership Information

  • Okaloosa County Residents or Property Owners: Free library cards are issued to residents or property owners in Okaloosa County. A Destin Library card entitles you to full services at all 6 libraries in the Okaloosa County Public Library Cooperative. Photo ID, proof of current street address (such as driver’s license, lease agreement, or utility bill) and contact telephone numbers are required to obtain a library card. Parents may apply for library cards for their school-aged children and are responsible for all materials checked out on their cards. Students with a current driver license may apply for their own card.
  • Non-Residents: Minimal fees are charged to out of county patrons and seasonal visitors. Unless you are an Okaloosa County property owner, you will be charged $26 per family for a seasonal membership, or $36 per family for a full-year membership. This entitles you to full use of our facility as well as other Okaloosa County libraries. Special policies apply for international students. Please call us at 837-8572 for more information.

Circulation Policies
  • Due Dates: Circulation period is two weeks for all materials, with the exception of DVDs, which are circulated for seven days only.
  • Limits: Cardholders are limited to five books and two DVDs per card.
  • Lost Cards: Patrons are asked to bring their library card with them to check out items or to use the public access computers. A fee of $1 is charged for replacement cards.
  • Lost or Damaged Items: Patrons are responsible for paying for all items lost or damaged. With approval of the Library Director, replacement of the item may be made with the same title or another suitable title. Parents are responsible for any overdue / damaged / lost items on their children's cards as well as fines incurred.
  • Overdue Items: Our fines are as follows:
    • $0.15 per day for books
    • $1 per day for videos / DVDs
    • $3 rewrap fee for sandy books
  • Renewal and Holds: Materials (except DVDs and new release books) may be renewed twice by phone or online from the library website catalog. Enter your 14-digit library barcode number (typed without spaces) and your PIN. (If you have never chosen a PIN, the default PIN is “CHANGEME”). Click on “My Account” and then “Renew My Materials.” Online renewals are blocked on accounts with large fines or more than four overdue items. Items on hold request by another patron may not be renewed. Holds for items currently checked out or at another OCPLC library may be placed online. Email notices for hold requests ready for pick-up are automatically sent out each day around 3 p.m. from “ocplcinfo” if your email address is on file. Please note that the email is sent out before your requested item hits our shelves. You may wish to call before making a special trip to the library.

Public Access & Wi-Fi Computer Policies

  • Computer Usage: Public access computers are available along with wireless connections if you bring your own laptop. Printing costs are $0.15 per page for black and white copies and $0.25 per page for color copies (10 pages per day free to students). Destin Library cardholders are allowed one sign-in per day for up to two hours. Guests are allowed one 45-minute session only. Exceptions may be made for boating courses or other special activities. Computers automatically shut down 15 minutes prior to library closing time. Children under 16 are not permitted to use a computer until parental consent is on file.
  • Internet Usage: Use of the public access computers for viewing or disseminating illegal or inappropriate images is prohibited. Accessing inappropriate sites, on library computers or your laptop, will result in revocation of library privileges. Parents are responsible for monitoring their child’s computer viewing.
  • Wi-Fi: Free wireless Internet access is available for guests and cardholders. No wireless printing services are available; however, staff can assist laptop users with transferring data to a public access computer for printing.
