About Us

As part of the Okaloosa County Public Library Cooperative, the library extends free services to the entire county population. Visitors and out-of-county users are charged a moderate fee. For an introduction to the Okaloosa County Public Library Cooperative, please click here.

The Destin Library is supported by city and county taxpayers, who expect our facilities to be clean, comfortable, and safe places for selecting materials, reading, researching, studying, writing and attending library or community sponsored programs and meetings. To this end, the library is responsible for establishing rules of conduct to protect the rights and safety of library patrons, volunteers and staff, and for preserving and protecting the library’s materials, equipment, facilities and grounds. Please click here for our Standards of Acceptable Library Behavior Policy.

Our Collection
The Destin Library provides a material collection which supports the community’s need for information, both personal and business-related. An extensive collection of recreational reading materials is available in regular-print, large-print, digital and electronic formats. The nonfiction collection is particularly strong in military history. The entire collection is in a continual process of reevaluation, with outdated, overly worn and unused items removed to make room for current, up to date materials in a variety of formats.

Lifelong Learning
Through the library, the City of Destin is supporting lifelong learning for all its residents. Children’s programming is offered for various ages, from toddlers through middle school students. Adult programming emphasizes computer / internet use classes so that electronic materials can be made accessible to all ages.

Catalog & Building
The library’s catalog provides access to all six Okaloosa County Cooperative library collections. Electronic information resources are expanding to meet the needs of the entire community. The library building provides meeting space for a variety of special programs. Reservations must be made by contacting the library.

Renewal and Holds

Materials (except DVDs and new release books) may be renewed twice by phone or online from the library website catalog. To renew online, enter your 14-digit library barcode number (typed without spaces) and your PIN. (If you have never chosen a PIN, the default PIN is “CHANGEME”). Click on “My Account” and then “Renew My Materials.” Online renewals are blocked on accounts with large fines or more than four overdue items. Items on hold request by another patron may not be renewed. Holds for items currently checked out or at another OCPLC library may be placed online. Email notices for hold requests ready for pick-up are automatically sent out each day around 3 p.m. from “ocplcinfo” if your email address is on file. Please note that the email is sent out before your requested item hits our shelves. You may wish to call before making a special trip to the library.
