Phase One

It was the first volunteer effort of many to come.  Volunteers arrived at Mattie Kelly Park  with their work clothes and work attitudes.  The volunteers wore eye protection, leather gloves and used hand held equipment to pull out the overgrown vines and lantana.

Volunteers spent the morning untangling vines and pulling them down from the trees.  The vines and lantana were then put into piles. The Public Works Department showed up after lunch to pick up the vegetation.

The next volunteer effort will be in January.  CBA, University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, volunteers and the City will be venturing deeper into the park, eradicating popcorn trees, mimosa trees and more lantana.
