Local Planning Agency (LPA)

The Local Planning Agency (LPA) has the general responsibility for the conduct of the comprehensive planning program, as provided for in the Local Government Comprehensive Planning and Land Development Regulation Act (Chapter 163, Part II Florida Statutes). Specifically the LPA is responsible for the preparation of the Comprehensive Plan and any amendments to the Plan. The LPA also makes recommendations to the City Council regarding the adoption or amendment of the Comprehensive Plan, Land Development Code and Code of Ordinances. The LPA is also responsible for the periodic preparation of Evaluation and Appraisal Reports (EAR) of the Comprehensive Plan.

Meetings:

The Local Planning Agency is scheduled to meet on the first and fourth Thursday of the month at 5:30 pm in the Destin City Hall Annex Chambers located at 4100 Indian Bayou Trail, Destin, Florida 32541. Please note: If there are no items for the LPA agenda, a meeting will not be held.

Membership:

The Local Planning Agency’s membership consists of seven members who are selected and approved by the City Council. All members must be citizens of Destin.

Agendas and Minutes:


Copies of the agendas, minutes of the meeting and agenda items are normally available on-line a few days prior to the meeting date and may also be viewed and copied in City Clerk’s Office during normal business hours.

Important Notice:


Due to recent court rulings regarding restrictions on ex-parte communications, individuals with interests in items to be discussed by the Board in public hearing should refrain from attempting to discuss such issues with Board members prior to the public hearing. Board members are prohibited from discussing issues prior to public hearing unless they disclose the full content of the discussion during the public hearing. All input should be submitted verbally or in writing during the public hearing process, or in writing to staff prior to the hearing, for entry into the public record.
