Weathering the Storm
Preparation is Key
As idyllic as Destin is, storms and hurricanes do occur infrequently and their aftermaths can be severe. All of the City of Destin is on a barrier island. Barrier islands are “extreme risk areas” which should be totally evacuated prior to Category 4 or 5 hurricanes.
Be Prepared
Hurricane season begins June 1 and runs through November 30. There are things to do prior to an expected storm and after. It is suggested that the Hurricane Information Guide be printed, studied, discussed with family members and kept at hand to prepare for possible storms or hurricanes and to assist you after a storm. This guide will explain whom to contact, where to go, when to go, supplies needed prior to the storm, securing your home and valuables and hazards and inconveniences to expect.
