Clean Water Act of 1972

The Federal Water Pollution Control Act was amended by Congress to prohibit the discharge of any pollutant to waters of the United States from a point source unless the discharge is authorized by the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.

NPDES Permit

The NPDES permit is designed to track point source pollution and require implementation of the controls necessary to minimize the discharge of pollutants.
