Flood Program Overview
Since 2010, FEMA awarded the City of Destin and the city has maintained a Community Rating System (CRS) Class 6 rating which puts the City in the top 15% of communities nationwide. All City of Destin National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Insurance Policyholders in the Special Flood Hazard Area (Zones A and V) began receiving a 20% premium discount beginning May 1, 2010. In total, flood insurance policyholders in Destin realize a savings of about $482,783 each year because the City participates in the CRS.

The CRS is a method for FEMA to assess and rate municipal efforts in flood prevention measures. The City of Destin has received an improved rating, thereby lowering insurance premiums.

The city works to provide public outreach regarding flood protection, floodplain management, flood safety and warning information, flood maps and flood insurance.

Additional flood information may be found at the FEMA website, State of Florida Division of Emergency Management website, Department of Homeland Security, and also at the official website of FloodSmart - National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
